Here is some important information regarding the required Family Service Hours:
What volunteer opportunities are available during the school day?
Parents are needed every day to help with lunch, and to serve as Room Parents and Picture Program volunteers, as well as for special events like field trips and our traditional St. Joseph's Day ice cream social. Sign up information for year-round activities and upcoming events will be available at the Parents' Club table at Fee Day.
What volunteer opportunities are available during the evening or on weekends?
The Parents' Club needs help with the Market Day fundraiser one Saturday a month, as well as with the Back to School and Valentine Dances (weekend evenings), and the Book Fair (weekday evening and Sunday morning), as well as other events that will be announced later. Every time there is an event for which we need volunteers, a volunteer request goes home in the Family Folder.
What if we want to earn all my hours at once?
Volunteer to chair or co-chair an event: this will automatically fill your total obligation. (See also: Athletic Association and Fundraising)
Can we earn hours by participating in Parents' Club Fundraisers?
Yes, you can, but only for our two biggest fund raisers. If you sell $600 or more in the Wrapping Paper Sale or earn $100 or more in your Manna TRIP account, the Parents' Club will count the time you have spent on those activities as fulfilling your 10 hour service obligation to the School. No partial hours will be awarded for fundraising, you have to raise the full amount in either Manna or the Wrapping Paper Sale to earn the full 10 hours.
Can we earn hours by participating in the St. Joseph Athletic Association?
Yes and no. If you serve as an athletic director or board member or coach your child's team you will automatically earn your family's 10 hours. However, your service obligation as the parent of a basketball or volleyball team member (concession stand duty, fish fry, etc…) does NOT count towards your St. Joseph School service hours.
Do any volunteer hours we worked last year count towards this year's total?
Yes, since your hours for this school year must be earned before May 1st, you may submit service hour forms for this year if you volunteered at the 8th Grade Dinner Dance, Fun Fair or class picnics, all of which took place last June. We will only award hours if you submit a form and the Event Chairs and teachers will be asked to review and initial them to make sure we account for everyone's time correctly.
